Snatch
5 x 3

Compare to 02/11/10.

10 Down-backs

Run 1 down-back every 45 seconds. Each down-back is an all-out sprint, so the focus is on maximal acceleration, deceleration, planting the foot and reversing direction, and accelerating to top speed again.

Original metcon:

20-16-10-6 reps for time of:
1-arm DB Power Snatch, 55#/35#
Pull-ups
(Courtesy of CrossFit KC)

Note - this is a power snatch, i.e., from the deck, not the hang.  The reps are split between the left and right hands.

So, like Jacob, I usually work a week back on mainsite wods. Thats the way we've done it, I like it. Today I want to do:
5RFT: Run 400m
15 Power Cleans - 135#
12 Thrusters - 95#
75 power cleans at about 90% bw? 60 thrusters at 64% bw might happen, but very slowly. Anyway, my question is, I guess for Phil, the programmer/coach, should I stay at the rx weight and take forever to do this wod or decrease and stay more continuous with the movements?

Whew. Yeah, that's a good concern. I don't know what your power cleans are like (relative to your body weight), but if it was me, I would decrease the weight to stay more continuous.

Perhaps choose a weight that you think you can get 12 unbroken reps at? I'm just going off of my own experience with that WOD - my first round was unbroken (I think the first two were unbroken, but I'm not sure).

Anyway, my reasoning would be this - this is supposed to be a metcon, and although it's not short, I don't think it's designed to be a 40-60 minute affair either. If you spend so much time on the cleans, you get way too much break time between the 400s and you lose a lot of the conditioning benefit.

As a side note, I think it's supposed to be 12 power cleans and 15 thrusters. That's what the main site has and is also what I did last week.

Phil - thanks for the coaching advice. I'll probably drop the weight to 75% on the cleans - which is the weight for "Linda" and I can get that unbroken. Probably also drop the thruster weight too - since you kindly pointed out to me that its 12 cleans and 15 thrusters. We'll see how it goes. I'm shooting for somewhere around 25 minutes.
Incidentally, I don't actually work on power cleans too often. I can comfortably get 135# 8-10 reps for probably 3 sets, but 12 at 5?

That was my goal too (the 25 minutes). Almost got it - 25:13 or something like that I think. Too lazy to look it up.

This was a while ago, but I evidently didn't post it.
