anyone watch the video on the mainsite today? the handstand workout from last week? i was out of town all last week and wanted to try this. i didn't get the chance to do it at ctsfw, so i tried on monday. first deadlifted and then this.
i'll admit, this is the first crossfit wod i've quit. round 1 took me about 3.5 minutes (thats minus the 2 minute hold). but then, half way through the handstand walk on round 2 i just couldn't go anymore. i'd get a couple of feet and fall. i was not interested in landing on my face or rolling a wrist, plus my shoulders and upper back were killer, so i threw in the towel. kind of ashamed to say, but . . .

if you haven't watched the video, take a look. its impressive. piruetes, one-arm handstands. maybe i should have moved closer to the wall for the static holds - she actually faces the wall, i don't.

phil - surprised to see your 5k time at what it is. how much mass have you put on? have you noticed it in the metcons?
I met jonathan shaw, jr (jacob might know sr - chaplain shaw, us army). he was at the sem last week. i did "diane" while there and he comes over and says, "i can tell my your movements, you must be a crossfitter." i said yes and asked about him - he's about 5'6'' 165#, was sumo-deadlifting about 355 for 3 reps. he responded: "i used to do that sh#t, but now i'm just trying to get big." he commented how the rxed weights were too much for him when he started, and how he couldn't do a pull-up, so he did a ton of curls. i asked about his diet. "i eat whatever the h*ll i want, whenever, and i only have 6% body fat." he's 22 - what can ya say?!

Seth-
I watched it just now. Uhhhh...wow. I'd like to try it, just to see how horrible it is.

I'm curious as to the front/back to the wall thing. I am back to the wall when I do them.

Also, I haven't ever tried a kipping HSPU, have you? I'm curious now.

And finally, Phil has put on a lot of mass. =) It's not just the haircut.

Just kidding, THIS is my "finally" statement...5'6" and 165 and SDHP 355x3 is...I can't imagine it. You should video tape him sometime. =)

Kiley:
Not SDHP. He was doing a deadlift, but in sumo stance - feet out wide - rather than feet about shoulder width apart.

OMG thank you for clarifying that! I just kept thinking about it and...short-circuiting. =)

OK, so since before Christmas, my back has been hurting. The first time I hurt it, it hurt for over a week. The second time for a few days, the third time for a few days. the third time was deadlifts on monday. I stayed in the under 300 and they were 3x sets, as i recall, so it wasn't my strongest effort, but it still left me with a sore back afterward.
The next workout was today, Friday. I was afraid to mess with my back again. So...

Row 10k
46:09.
Could have been better, but I'm glad now to have a time to beat on that one. At about 5500m, my thighs went numb. My butt around 8500.

I really like the rower, and will never buy a treadmill, ever, ever. Because if I would get an idea like that, I would buy a rower instead. And I doubt I'll ever buy a rower.

Jacob - The last paragraph reminds me of a Deep Thought by Jack Handy.

Today marks the end of my two month strength training focus. It also marks the end of me drinking 1 gallon of whole milk per day. It worked. I am dramatically stronger in just two months. I am very tempted to keep doing it and keep getting stronger. I also don't want a giant "strongman" gut.

My body is aware that something is missing. (like the 2500 extra calories per day from the milk)

I also am going back to doing more conditioning and more Crossfit type stuff. Today over lunch, I played basketball.

I was certainly rusty. I also felt......heavy.

Chris -- If you're stopping, I'm stopping now too. It got broke up anyhow with me being sick, then travelling, etc. It's a hard diet to maintain. I'll try it again, but first after I get moved and settled into my new place.

That, by the way, is the news. You're now looking at (well, not exactly. Maybe I can get Phil to post a pic though) an official stipend-holding, apartment-seeking German ThD student. Before I was just the latter, a German ThD student (the adjective "german" applies here to the ThD, not to the student; but I think that was clear.), but now, I have some organization paying for me to study for the next two years. This... is a dream come true.

Today:
5 RFT
500m Row
7 60k (132lb) Thrusters
18:30

I was ok with that time. i'm never really satisfied, but I felt like I stayed moving pretty well.

back's feeling good -- I thought the thrusters might get it, but they did not.

Phil?

Have we never done "JT"? I totally think we have, but I can't find it here!!!

jacob, nice work on the row/thrusters. now i have a time to shoot for this afternoon. i'll probably scale the 135# to 50/55# dumbbells, though.
also, good news on the stipend. when will you start teaching?
