Deadlift PR (03-05-09)

Almost forgot to mention - my back is not perfect on this lift. On the other hand, it's not horrible, and there was no discomfort whatsoever during or after any of those lifts that day, so I'm pretty happy with it. And I got the lift, so I'm definitely happy with that.

On a related note, Coach Glassman has pointed out that we always strive for perfect form and the highest possible level of intensity. He goes on to say - and I paraphrase here - that when working at the limits of one's capacity, i.e., when you're at high intensities, form will sometimes suffer - inevitably.

If this is not the case - if one is working on the ragged edge of intensity and is still nailing picture perfect pull-ups, deadlifts, sumo-deadlift high pulls, etc, Coach Glassman argues that one is probably not actually at that "ragged edge."

I'm with Coach on this. I should be aiming for perfect form on that deadlift. That said, if I had nailed 460 with perfect form, then I probably would have tried for more on the next set. Incidentally, I did try for more on the next set, and that weight did not move. At all.

A) Nice PR Phil!
2) I plan on running that race. Or at least jogging it.

Um, so I'm not so fancy as to know each mile time. I did record the first and second halves. =)

Total 49:15, first half was 24:28. Faster than I'd expected and an added bonus of running WITH someone AND getting to talk about coaching! Woot woot!!! =)
